What to do and what to see in Marsala and surroundings:

Do not miss a visit to the Cathedral of Marsala that you will find in Piazza della Repubblica. The building was built during the '600 where once stood a Norman church.

The Cathedral Church with its baroque façade is characterized by two imposing bell towers and consists of three naves. Inside it houses incredible marble works, paintings and tombstones dedicated to famous people of the country. 

THE MUSEUM OF TAPESTRIES 

Not too far from the Cathedral stop at the Tapestry Museum, where you can admire the eight tapestries of Flemish origin that were donated, to the Mother Church of Marsala in 1589, by the Archbishop of Messina on behalf of Philip II of Spain.

HISTORICAL CENTRE OF MARSALA

Did you know that once Marsala was protected by a wall and had several doors? Of the latter you can admire Porta Garibaldi and Porta Nuova that are still visible.

Walk along the course admiring the incredible Art Nouveau buildings and stone palaces, until you reach Purgatorio square where it is worth visiting the beautiful church.

Do not miss a visit to Our Lady of Sorrows Square where you will find the beautiful town hall with strong Arab influences, which was once part of the Spanish military complex. 

ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

The archaeological museum of Marsala contains numerous archaeological finds found in the territory of Marsala: you will find evidence found on the island of Motya during the Carthaginian period, including the wreck of a ship and remains dating back to the Paleolithic.
